Consultative Workshop on National Irrigation PolicyFAO project Capacity Development and
Institutional Strengthening (CDIS) in coordination with the Irrigation
Directorate has organized several consultative workshops in the three zones of
Afghanistan. The first workshop was organized in Northern region, Mazar –e-
Sharif, followed by western region in Herat,
the third workshop was in central region, Kabul and the last workshop was launched in eastern region Jalal Abad. From all over the country employee of the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL), Ministry of Energy and Water (MEW) and Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD) has participated in these workshops. Including the above ministries’ employees, donor agencies’ representatives, universities’ professors and government officials have also participated in the workshops. In these workshops participants were divided in 7 groups. Each group was consisted of different expert from several organizations representatives. The policy draft was distributed to the groups and they discussed the policy from different perspectives. The outcome of the group discussion was very useful. At the end of day, each group presented their discussion briefings to all the participants.All the comments, recommendation, critiques and inputs were collected from the groups by the CDIS team and will be incorporated in the policy draft.
